Sounds

The files listed here are quite large because they're high quality audio (much better than most video soundtracks). They're hosted on a server with very limited bandwidth, so I can't guarantee they'll always be available.

Railway sounds

2010-10-30 22:01Bristol Temple Meads (4)2m24sMP3
An urban owl hoots before before DRS 37601 and 37038 head 12 coaches, with WCRC 47500 trailing, out of Temple Meads with the York to Taunton return leg of Spitfire Railtours' "Jorvik Explorer II". It promptly slows to a halt at a signal.
2010-10-30 18:11Yatton56sMP3
Ex-LNER A4 60019 "Bittern" whistles as it approaches Yatton with the Exeter St Davids to London Paddington return leg of S team Dreams' "Cathedrals Express".
2010-09-29 20:05Bristol Parkway (2)6m23sMP3
Freightliner 66952 shunting Freightliner coal wagons in Stoke Gifford yard. The dominant sounds are the curiously hypnotic rattles and pings of couplings, wheels and axles crossing a rail joint, until the distinctive chunter and whine of the class 66 loco approaches, then leaves again. There are also some automated station announcements, and (in the distance) a neighing horse. When platform 1 is eventually built here, it's likely to provide a much clearer (and popular) view of the yard.
2010-09-14 18:12Didcot Parkway (4)7m30sMP3
DB Schenker 66141 stops at platform 4 with an eastbound train of covered wagons. The driver changes, and the new driver inches forward to a red signal. While waiting at the signal, an HST from Oxford to London passes on the avoider, sounding its horn, before the signal clears and 66141 continues on its way.
2010-07-23 20:05Bristol Parkway (4)1m10sMP3
FGW 43128 and 43172 (HST) accelerates away from platform 3 with 2001 to London Paddington (1828 from Swansea). Platform 4 projects a long way beyond the adjacent platform 3 at Bristol Parkway, providing a good spot from which to view northbound and eastbound trains leaving the station.

FGW (leased) 67029 and 67017 top-and-tailing 1521 to Cardiff Central (1411 from Taunton). This was my first railway recording. Thanks to the driver who sounded the horn while still under the overall roof! The continual cracking noise is from a class 158 unit parked nearby.
