Eastern skies

The sun has set behind the Western hillside
Distant city lights are growing strong against the night
Hill and valley vanish as twilight slowly dies
The last remains of yesterday
Fade into the Eastern sky

The valley lies in silence now the light of day has gone
The land is left to darkness and creatures of the night
Shadows wake and quicken where once the sun had shone
The hopes and dreams of yesterday
Fade into the Eastern sky

The city lights are failing now as day begins to grow
The Morning Star is rising, behind it rides the moon
Shadows fade as daylight enters softly through the dawn
The sun we watched set yesterday
Can still ignite the Eastern sky
