Mushrooms

They say that we're wealthy, they say that we're free
They say it each day in the press, on TV
When things become gloomy they say that we should
Really be glad because we've never had it so good

There's no constitution, just more destitution
There's scarcely a day without more on the dole
The numbers keep rising, it's hardly surprising
That people can't manage to find a more positive role

Things'll improve if we give them more time
The economy's showing a positive sign
Jerusalem beckons, we just have to wait
It's coming for sure but they can't quite give us a date

You could have predicted that when you're evicted
A man with no home is a man with no vote
The world is in crisis, it shouldn't surprise us
That fingers are tightening their grip on democracy's throat

Things'll be fine if we give them a chance
They're leading us all a most comical dance
They think we're like mushrooms, allergic to light
And every so often they throw us a bucket of shite

The forests are smoking, the cities are choking
The seas are a mess and the air makes you cough
Increasing pollution, no nearer solution
It's time we found out who to blame when the Earth kills us off
