Gaia: Planet ten parsecs from Sayshell planet, in the region of the Sayshell Union, but totally independent of and isolated from it. Sayshellians were encouraged to believe that Gaia was the original Earth and had disappeared into hyperspace, the truth being that all attempts to conquer, trade or communicate with it had failed.; Gaia was a world of islands which had been established shortly after the development of hyperspatial travel with the help of robots, most prominent among whom was Daneel Olivaw, who had taught its people that they could best survive by applying the principles of the Laws of Robotics to their own lives. From the robots Gaia's people learned how to read and influence mental activity, and from this developed a collective consciousness in which the whole of the planet shared.; When the Mule escaped from Gaia to conquer a large part of the rest of the galaxy Gaia left the problem of dealing with him to the Second Foundation, which they realised was on the way to developing a group consciousness of its own. Further advances in the physical power of the First Foundation and the mental power of the Second brought a crisis in the balance of power in the galaxy which they could not resolve since the Laws of Robotics prevented them from imposing their preferred solution on the rest of the galaxy.; First noticed as a vague reference to a planet in the Sayshell Sector by Janov Pelorat during his search for Earth, this was later deduced by Golan Trevize to have been part of Gaia's attempt to manipulate him into going to the planet in order to resolve the crisis. At the time of Trevize's visit its population was stable at around 1 billion.; After Trevize had decided that for Gaia to evolve into Galaxia was preferable to a galaxy ruled by either of the Foundations, Gaia, through Dom and Bliss, supported his proposal to search for the real planet of origin, Earth. Gendibal, Stor: Recruited by the Second Foundation as a ten-year-old boy, Gendibal's rapid rise to the youngest-ever Speakerhood and undisguised ambition made him unpopular with his fellow Speakers. They were doubtful when he tried to warn them of the potential danger posed by the exile from Terminus of Golan Trevize, who was convinced that the Second Foundation still existed, and by the mysterious power outside of the Second Foundation which seemed to be influencing the Seldon Plan in a manner more subtle than they themselves were able to do.; Further evidence came with the unprovoked assault on him by a Hamish farmer, Karoll Rufirant, and the subtle tampering with the mind of the Hamish woman Sura Novi. By this time his ambitious fellow-speaker Delora Delarmi had had Gendibal impeached by the Table, and although the evidence of Novi convinced the other Speakers of the wisdom of his actions, he was sent with Novi to follow Trevize and to locate the so-called Anti-Mules.; At Gaia he learned that his own ambition for the First Speakership had been used by Gaia to lead him there, along with Harla Branno of the First Foundation, so that Golan Trevize could decide whose vision of the future the galaxy should follow. When Trevize decided in favour of Galaxia, all memories of Gaia were removed from Gendibal and he returned to Trantor satisfied at having engineered the trade agreement between the Foundation Federation and the Sayshell Union. Godhisavatta, Namarath: Head of Sayshellian Customs, instructed via a dream to allow the Foundation ship Far Star, containing Golan Trevize and Janov Pelorat, to land on Sayshell unhindered. It is possible that the dream was the work of Gaia. (13-11-40)

Gruer, Hannis: Solarian Head of Security, who on Han Fastolfe's recommendation and Aurora's insistence brought in Elijah Baley to investigate the murder of Rikaine Delmarre, and on whose estate a temporary house was built for the use of Elijah Baley and Daneel Olivaw during their investigation. When he was poisoned as a result of Jothan Leebig's manipulation of his house robots, his place was taken by Corwin Attlebish. (2-3,6)
